Nick Portnoy Builders is a general contracting (& sometimes design/build) firm, specializing in design-driven residential construction. We work within a 30 minute driving radius of our shop, in Watertown, MA. If the project is compelling or there is a great coffee shop nearby, we could be convinced to travel further.

We do a variety of work, from small additions to custom home builds. And while they're all unique in their own way, they all share some things in common: good design, a collaborative process, and trusting clients. Every project reflects our deep commitment to craftsmanship and quality.

The hallmark of our approach is the owner (NP) managed model. This has a number of benefits—direct accountability, streamlined decision making, consistent quality control, to name a few—but also allows Nick to add his own touches to each project, reflecting his design sensibility and expertise in architectural detailing. We think the projects benefit from that, and so do our clients.

The experience showcased in our portfolio is the same expertise we bring to every project. There's not an "A-team" or "B-team" (nevermind "C" team). When you work with Nick Portnoy Builders, you get Nick's personal attention, creative problem-solving, and commitment to excellence from start to finish.

All projects operate on a cost-plus basis, which aligns with the nature of our work and fosters a fair, transparent process. We limit the number of projects we take on at a given time (generally 2) to ensure each project receives the dedicated attention they deserve.
